Lesson Plan 1

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.7.5 With some guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed. (Editing for conventions should demonstrate command of Language standards 1–3 up to and including grade 7 here.)
Technology/Tools: NewsHour – students will upload their broadcasts on to a site called NewsHour.
Activities/Task: Create and write a news source of at least one page. When completed, use this outline to frame a news’ broadcast. With these two activities, students will meet the Common Core Standards.
Potential Challenges: Working with new broadcasting sites could post challenges for students because of the unfamiliarity with them. However, the directions should be precise and clear enough for students to get a handle on the project.
Evaluation with Component - Conducting Practice Several Times During the Lesson
- This lesson is feasible and rewarding for a creative lesson. Students writing their own outlines/scripts and then taking these and making them a reality on their personal student-made broadcasts. One component of an effective lesson is to conduct practice at different times so that students better understand the tools and directions given to them. This is essential to creative learning because students need to know how to use their resources to utilize their talents. This lesson, PBS Production, can work with practice in order to give students maximum resource efforts.

Lesson Plan 2

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.7.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 7 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly.
Technology/Tools: Primary Sources to create the creative juices for each group. Group work to create the focus of each subject and to also answer any questions that need to be answered before capturing the story.
Activities/Tasks: Students must work in groups to compare other stories to their ideas, answer any questions that must be answered before going out to find their story, write a script and/or outline to help keep the focus of the project, and film a story for the broadcast project.
Potential Challenges: Some of the potential challenges this lesson faces are the group work with all the possible unanswered questions. Because the students compare with other stories, ideas can be repeated and left with unanswered holes in the subjects or material.
Evaluation with Component - Structuring a Lesson for Group Reflection and Inquiry
- This lesson exercises the component of structuring a lesson for group reflection and inquiry. This component is important in creative learning because students need to collaborate with their peers as well as talk through their ideas in order to find a relatable topic. In this lesson, groups assign roles (ex: producer), discuss ideas, view other ideas, and discuss with the entire class in order to make their production superb. It is important to collaborate and have group discussions because it creates the creative flow needed to make ideas, plans, and then experiment with those ideas.

Lesson Plan 3

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.
Technology/Tools: Watching news’ broadcasts online from local stations. Using local resources to create ideas and a background for broadcast.
Activities/Tasks: Watch local news’ broadcasts; create own script (per group); find natural sound for the video and explain why and how for each scene (if multiple); create newscast on researched topic.
Potential Challenges: The challenges this lesson faces are the amount of time in a class and the focus of the lesson. Watching local news’ broadcasts, creating a script and filming outside would take longer than a given class time. In order for this lesson to work, it needs to be broken down into a span of several days so students have an adequate amount of time to make a successful story to share with the class.
Evaluation with Component - An Introduction: setting the stage using tools such as note-taking and group collaboration.
- Setting the stage for the lesson is very important. An introduction gives the students the objective of the lesson focus. In this lesson, students watch local broadcast stories to understand focus of broadcasting and to get an introduction to their assignment. Students may also take notes and discuss with their group about how the broadcast made them feel, what they believed the focus and the positive and negatives of the broadcast. An introduction allows students to understand the topic being covered in the lesson and ask initial questions.
