Lesson Plan
During this lesson plan activity, I learned a lot about what it takes to do certain activities, simple or complex, in the classroom. I learned about how hard it is to implement these activities in coordination with classroom standards, how time-consuming it is to write out an intricate lesson plan, and how much time is spent actually doing the project in relation to teacher's time. Creating this lesson plan was quite interesting and helpful in my learning of creativity, learning, and instructor's time. It was helpful to draw out steps during the lesson writing process. Making steps and creating the lesson plan piece by piece made it easier to create the lesson plan effectively and clearly. I was surprised by how much time it takes to create lesson plans and that teachers have lesson plans for each activity done in class. So for my 12 years in school before college, my teachers created hundreds of lesson plans for me to be able to have hands-on learning experience for each lesson.
My final lesson plan idea, news broadcasting in the classroom, matched my goals I set in the beginning. My goals were as follows:
1. After this lesson, students will be able to clearly identify parts of a broadcast including but not limited to: background noise, on-air, off-air, lighting, camera positions, etc.
2. Students will explain awareness of off-air environments although not seen on camera
3. Students will learn how to operate media including but not limited to: video camera, editing software, etc.
4. Students will be able to identify parts of a video camera in order to perform the responsibilities of the technology.
5. Students will be able to positively discuss creative ideas with peers and receive feedback from peers.
6. Students will be able to properly present a multi-media project for their peers with initiative.
I believe my lesson plan stayed true to my goals set prior to my write up. Students will learn the parts of a broadcast from the introduction of local news stations and their original broadcasts as well as from discussions on Edmodo. Students will become aware of off-air environments also from introduction and discussion but also from their personal filming on the specified film day. Learning how to operate the media and the parts of the video camera from the hands-on filming and from the guidance of instructors and tutorials. Learning positive discussion and presentations will come from experience, discussion, and observation of classmates and the instructor.
If my lesson plan was implemented in a classroom, I believe the teachers and students would have a good time creating their broadcasts, sharing feedback, and learning about the everyday news. Students aren't aware of how much effort it takes daily to make the news we take for granted. After creating my own lesson plan, I feel I have a lot left to learn about implementing technology in the classroom. I am still not fully aware of all the efforts, requirements, and approvals that are needed in order to allow such activities to take place in a classroom. I would love to learn more about this topic: technology in the classroom.
